Library Collections

Books for Adults

We have books about our world, the latest fiction bestsellers, non-fiction texts to help with Sunday School study, self-help books, history, biography, periodicals, large-print books, audio-books, and computers to look stuff up. Books we can’t use in our collection, we offer for sale.

Books for Children and Youth

We’re your children’s source for the latest award-winners! Our volunteer staff includes people who know children’s books inside-and-out and can recommend top fiction and non-fiction titles to put in your collection (pre-K—Young Adult).

Resources for the Decatur Reading Community

The Library is an information source and cheerleader for book festivals (Decatur Book Festival) and author talks (Georgia Center for the Book, Conversations, local bookstores). We post calendars for community book sales, book recommendations, interesting websites — all things BOOK.

Beth’s Books

Each month, Beth Withers, one of our library volunteers, shares the newest books that have been added to our church library this past month:

  • PICTURE BOOK

    • The Word Collector by Peter H. Reynolds
Some people collect stamps, others collect coins, but Jerome collects words. In this extraordinary tale, a delightfully drawn little boy discovers the magic of words all around him. It is a celebration of finding your own words and the impact you can have when you share them with the world. Donated by Shirley Silver.

  • JUVENILE FICTION

    • Down the Mysterly River by Bill Willingham

Max, a top notch Boy Scout, finds it very odd that he finds himself in an unfamiliar wood. Odder still, Max encounters a badger named Banderbrock, a black bear named Walden, and an old barn cat named Monster. All three animals can talk and are as clueless as Max. Together they form a bond to outwit the hunters who are out to change them beyond recognition. Lovingly illustrated by Mark Buckingham, this is a tale of adventure, suspense, and everlasting friendship. Donated by Joyce Cotton.

  • ADULT FICTION

    • The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin
      A. J. Fikry’s life is not what he expected it to be. His wife has died, and someone has stolen a rare collection of Poe poems from his bookstore. He slowly isolates himself from all of the people in his town. Then a mysterious package appears in his bookstore, which gives A. J. Fikry the opportunity to make his life over. This is a tale of transformation and second chances, an irresistible affirmation of why we read and why we love. Donated by Joyce Cotton.

  • ADULT NON-FICTION

    • The Churchill Sisters: The Extraordinary Lives of Winston and Clementine’s Daughters by Rachel Trethewey
“Winston Churchill’s story has been told many times, but this fascinating book brings the lives of his daughters out of the shadows for the first time. There is sadness and tragedy, but in the end it’s the extraordinary talents and resistance of these remarkable women that shine through. A revelation.” Andrew Wilson, award-winning author. Donated by Marie Shepley in memory of Katherine Blanton.
