Goodbye Reception for Monique Wischusen

Monique Reception, 5-5 - TW.png

We have been so thankful for Monique Wischusen and her ministry among us as the Director of our Verdery Counseling Center. She has been a source of hope and healing for numerous clients, parents and children over her valuable time here at First Baptist Church and I have been so thankful to have been serving as a partner in ministry.

We have all also been blessed by her weekly words of wisdom through Monique's Meditations. Each week in our weekly email update, Monique has offered insights and brief suggestions for better living and healthy coping. We are indebted to the many ways that she has touched our lives and given a sense of perspective and grace.

I have the sad but also happy news of sharing that she is resigning as our Director of the VCC; but her reason is to focus on being a mom. Monique and Peter have the brand new and beautiful task of raising their lovely daughter, LaRue. Peter also has begun a new journey as a co-pastor in a new church start through CBF.

We hope that they both will continue to stay connected to us, but want to wish them well in their exciting new journey as a family.

Reception for Monique, May 5th at 9:45am

As a part of our hopes for them, we will be hosting a reception in Monique's honor on May 5th at 9:45 immediately following Fresh Start worship. We hope many of you can join us as we wish Monique, Peter and LaRue beautiful blessings for this next stage of their lives together.

Thank you for everything, Monique.
Congratulations and God Bless!

Joy Night Gospel Music Celebration

Sunday, May 5, 2019 | 5:00pm

Our community gospel music celebration, Joy Night, celebrates the diversity of the human spirit, with joyful music sung by choirs of all types.  We will also honor former first lady, Mrs. Rosalynn Carter, for her humanitarian work at Joy Night.

Many exciting musical groups will be joining us including Kevin Styles and Psalms, Decatur High School, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Greenforest Baptist Church, and Malissa Mckennie, Pastor at We The Family Christian Community Ministries.  Each choral group will perform separately before combining for a grand finale.

Our inspiration for ‘Joy Night’ came from one of our members, Julian Bond, who recalled the overwhelming feelings of community and purpose when churches came together monthly for a night of music and fellowship in the Roslyn Heights area of New York City. During joy night we will also help Julian Bond celebrate his 30th year in the music ministry.

Sunday, May 5 at 5:00pm
Concert is free of charge and followed by a potluck meal in Carreker Hall

Church Business Meeting

Church Business Mtg. 4-24.png

Wednesday, April 24, 2019 | 6:00pm | Carreker Hall

If you’re a member of FBCD or call this faith community home, then you are invited to participate in our quarterly church business meeting.

In these meetings, we offer a status update on the life of the church, celebrate and discuss emerging initiatives, as well as give an overview of the overall financial health of the church (money is a tool we’re wanting to leverage responsibly – that’s why we talk about it).

There is nothing you need to do to prepare for this meeting, just come on by! Dinner begins at 5:30pm.

Note: In the past couple of years, these meetings were held after services on Sundays, but to preserve the spirit of Sunday worship, we decided to move them to Wednesdays – thanks for understanding!
