Welcome Bill Neal

Dr. Bill Neal, Our New Interim Pastor to Senior Adults and Pastoral Care

I am so pleased to announce that our own Dr. Bill Neal has agreed to serve as our Interim Pastor to Senior Adults and Pastoral Care! These were two of the many roles that Bob Williamson filled for us for many years with such grace and competency. Now Bill is joining our staff in this interim role and has already made a huge impact.

You will see these words about him on our website:

William (Bill) Neal has enjoyed a long career in Baptist ministry, which includes campus ministry, religious journalism, the local church, and more recently, a statewide ministry for people with developmental disabilities.

He is a graduate of Columbus State University and earned his master’s and doctor’s degrees at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. Bill has “retired” at least three times, but really enjoys staying busy so he has never really stopped doing some form of ministry.

He and his wife, Judy, have been members of FBC Decatur since 2004 and have been involved in many of the church’s ministries. Bill enjoys travel, reading, various hobbies, volunteer work for the church and several other organizations, and spending time with his four grandchildren.

In his pastoral care role, he has been visiting our homebound members, following up on those who have been recently hospitalized and going to our area hospitals. He is also coordinating visitation for the others of us on staff for additional shared hospital and homebound visitation.

In his role as Pastor to Senior Adults, he has already been meeting and planning with our Senior Adult and Young at Heart leadership and is helping to lay the groundwork for the coming months of work, visits, missions, ministry, trips and luncheons.

We are thrilled to welcome you to our ministry staff Bill. And we are honored to be serving with you!

Sunday Potluck | December 2nd

Looking for an easy, laid-back lunch following worship on December 2nd? Then you should join us in Carreker Hall for a Sunday potluck!

These meal times are wonderful opportunities to connect with those in our faith community, and what better way to do that than over food during the holiday season?

The FBCD kitchen will be providing the main entree for the meal, while Sunday School classes will be responsible for providing the sides (salads, veggies, casseroles, desserts). Not in a Sunday School class? Simply bring something yummy to share with the community!

Sunday School classes will learn what type of item their members are asked to bring over the next two weeks (11/18, 11/25). Kathryn Hartgrove will be making her rounds on Sunday mornings to let y’all know.

Do you have a friend who’s interested in coming back to church? Bring them along with you this Sunday!

You won't want to miss it!
